RAKU

Once it can be seen that the glaze has matured, the pots are removed from the kiln and placed into a metal bin which contains combustible material such as sawdust and wood shavings. This creates a post-firing reduction atmosphere which will encourage a range of effects. Depending on the glazes used, these include the formation of metallic lustres, crackle glazes, smoked and carbonised surfaces.
